First time Jamaican Olympian Aisha Praught is into the final of the womenís 3000m steeplechase at the Rio Olympics after lodging a successful appeal following the first round of the event. Praught fell after being impeded during the third heat and finished eighth in 9:35.79.
The Track Referee and Jury of Appeal met and, after examining the video of the race, Praught †and two other athletes who fell, were advanced to the final.
Meanwhile, 6-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt is into the semi-finals of the menís 100mm. Bolt won his heat in 10.07 seconds.
Compatriots Yohan Blake 10.07 and Nickel Ashmeade 10.13 seconds, are also into the semi finals.
All three ladies, national champion Stephenie-Ann McPherson 51.36, Shericka Jackson 51.74 and Christine Day 51.55 seconds, won their respective heats to move into the semi-finals of the 400 metres.
In the field, national champion Kimberly Williams advanced to the final of the womenís triple jump after cutting the sand at 14.22 metres.
However, compatriot Shanieka Thomas failed to advance from her qualifying group after doing 14.02 metres.
